Summerhill travel to Gibbstown on Thursday evening hoping to get their Division One League campaign back on track following the defeat at the hands of Gaeil Colmcilles in the previous round. It was an evening that was more typical of October than late June. It was cool with rain and a strong and swirling winds that were going to make life difficult for the players. Summerhill were boosted by the return of our county players Ross and Ronan Ryan, Eoghan Frayne and Adam McDonnell.  

The home side began the game brightly, scoring a point with their first attack. They added another two points by the 10th minute to lead by three points to no score with the Summerhill forwards having difficulty adjusting to the swirling wind and being guilty of hitting a number of wides. It took till the 20th minutes for Summerhill to finally get off the mark with a point from Eoghan Frayne. Summerhill managed to turn over the resulting short kickout resulting in Kevin Ryan having a shot on goal blocked, but Eoghan Frayne scored from the resulting 45. Summerhill finished the half strongly, adding on another three points, two more from Frayne and one from Padhraig Geraghty to leave the halftime score. Summerhill 0-5 Wolfe Tones 0-3. 

The second half got on their way with the rain continuing to fall. A Diarmuid McCabe effort  was quickly cancelled out by another point for the home side. Summerhill took full control of the game over the next 15 minutes adding 1-5 without reply. Summerhill’s goal coming from Kevin Ryan in the 8th minute who picked up a ball from Kevin Lyons and ran straight through the Wolfe Tones defense to fire to the back of the net. Summerhill’s points coming from two from David Larkin, as well as points from Adam Flanagan, Eoghan Frayne and Manny Magno. The home side added their 5th and final point the 24th minute.  

The final score of the game was to be another Summerhill goal, in the 28th minute of the half. Manny Magno managed to dispossess one of the defenders who tried to play along the ground back to his keeper. Magno however reached the ball first and from about 25meters out skillfully chipped the ball over the out rushing keeper and into the back of the net for a great goal. 

This left the final score. Summerhill 2-11, Wolfe Tones 0-5 . The win kept Summerhill at the top of a very tight League Division One with one round of games left. Next up is a home game against St. Colmcilles in Summerhill on Friday evening next.
