The long trip to the lovely grounds in North Meath ended in defeat for a gallant Summerhill side , who were right in this game until well after the second water break. Playing with 14 men for most of the second half, the Hill side just couldn’t get enough ball into the scoring zone. Injury to midfielder Donal Matthews resulted in a dramatic substitution by veteran coach Robbie Moran, who brought style, skill and panache to an already formidable forward outfit of Connie McGrath, Jack Farrell and Jeremy Ennis. Robbie set up a couple of points and scored one of his own when a goal was the better option. He declared after the game that he was retiring- again. Apparently Luke, who had a fine game, felt his father would be insufferable if he keeps coming on in games!
This game saw a return to club action for Gary Gill, Connie McGrath and Cathal Ennis; all three had fine games. The third team is a development squad and the effort that the veterans put in is an example to the younger players, many of whom play adult football for the first time. Next game will be in Summerhill against St. Colmcilles in 2 weeks presumably.
