Following on from their superb Senior Championship win last Sunday evening, it was a short week for the Summerhill men, who made the trip to Simonstown Friday night last. With Caolan Young out to illness there were a few changes made to the starting line up, Willie Ryan moved into the full back slot and Iarla Hughes started at centre half back for the Hill.
It was a match we were always in control of with excellent points from David Larkin, Conor Frayne and John Keane. Then a goal on 22nd minute from Frayne left John Lyons’s men leading 1-7 to 0-5 and in the driving seat. But points from Sean Tobin and Nicky O’Brien bridged the gap somewhat for the Gaels.
The First half finished 1-7 to 0-7 to the ‘Hill.
Another goal from the indomitable young Frayne early in the second half really set the Summerhill men on their way . A clever pass from Cian Devlin found the in form John Keane who scored a magnificent point from play. Paddy McGrath and Micheál Bryne again this week had a firm hold in midfield, both getting on the score sheet. A brilliant save from Tony McDonnell lifted the team even higher and they pushed on for more scores with David Larkin out witting the Gaels defenders time and time again.
The Summerhill management emptied the bench in the last ten minutes and it was an excellent team performance. A last minute Simonstown goal for Joe Lyons made the score line appear healthier than it was. Final Score Summerhill 2-16 Simonstown 1-10 and a well deserved Club trip to Punchestown to support their sponsor Gordon Elliott to look forward to. All in all not a bad Friday. Next up Dunshaughlin at home Saturday 5th of May.
