Summerhill made the long trip to Gibbstown on Thursday evening to contest the U14 league semi final. Wolfe Tones had beaten the Hill comprehensively in the earlier round game but this was never going to be repeated second time of asking.
A number of injuries and absences did however deplete the resources which proved to be the telling factor in the second half, when Tones, who topped the league on full points, were practically able to replace most of their squad with fresh legs.
The Hill started well with Jamie O'Shea to the fore scoring all the first half points tally giving a virtuoso display from half forward, with great combination play from Conor Summerville and Donal Mathhews. Jamie Ryan-Meegan got on the end of an Adam Larkin 45 and palmed to the net, while Harry Ryan was prominent in the forward division during this period also, getting on a lot of good quality ball, his strength and huge kicks proving a handful for the Tones defence.
The second half proved to be very difficult for the first 15 minutes when the home side reshuffled the pack and got a series of well taken scores. However Summerhill rallied and continuous pressure resulted in a further point from O'Shea and 2 goals from Jamie Ryan Meegan, including one from a well-taken penalty.
This team has shown great improvement over the past few months and hopefully will continue to improve over the summer.
