Summerhill hosted Ratoath in the round 7 of the Division 2 league on Sunday the 15th of May. The Summerhill Ladies were trying to continue their winning ways after the U16’s won the Cup final against Na Fianna the day before in Trim.
Ratoath started out the scoring with a point from Aisling O’Reilly, however, Summerhill came back with a point from Laoise Devlin, and two goals, one from Ciara Daly which was worked in by Ceilidh Dalton and the other goal from Niamh Crowe. Julianne Scanlon continued the pressure from her full-back position and made Ratoath’s O’Reilly kick a possible point wide. Jenny Rispin scored 2 consectuive points at 15 and 16 minutes into the first half as well as Crowe at 19 minutes. Ceilidh Dalton from the home team also continued to run into space and netted after a cross from Andrea Pearle. Katie Callaghan from Ratoath scored a point but Summerhill answered with a goal from Crowe which slipped through the goalies legs. The tension was rising and Olivia Comey from the ‘Hill saved a ball from Adrienne McCann. However, McCann continued and pointed with 8 minutes to go from a free. Rispin netted for the ‘Hill with 7 minutes left, and Devlin also pointed twice.
In the second half, Ratoath points came from O’Reilly, Rebecca McIntyre, and Callaghan, Summerhill’s Rispin pointed at 8 minutes as well as Dalton at 9. Ratoath came back with another two points from Callaghan and McIntyre , however, they could have got more if it was not for wing backs Jane Flynn and Megan who both sweeped any stray balls around the centre of the pitch. Rispin, and Andrea Pearle both pointed as well as Ratoath’s Emma McGill to end the match with a tally of Summerhill 5:09 to Ratoath 10 points.
Summerhill will continue to the final which will be held in Páirc Tailteann on Sunday the 22nd against Donaghmore/Ashbourne.
