Summerhill ladies went down to a defeat at the hands of Ratoath in the Intermediate championship played in Summerhill on Monday evening.
Summerhill started the game brightly but missed several goal scoring opportunities in the first ten minutes. The teams traded points throughout the half before Ratoath took the lead for the first time on the stroke of half time with the goal. With the half time whistle about to blow Jenny Rispin won the ball 40 meter out before cutting through the Ratoath defence to score a great goal to restore Summerhills lead at half time on a score line of 1-5 to 1-4.
Summerhill began the second half brightly and extended their lead with a goal from a Jenny Rispin penalty. The penalty was awarded for a foul on Rispin and although her initial spot kick was well saved she follows up to dispatch the ball to the back of the net. A Laoise Devlin point extended the Summerhill lead to 4 point. Ratoath hit back with a goal and 2 points to retake the lead again before Rispin brought the sides level again. The game was end to end at this stage with Ratoath immediately replying with another goal. Two more Summerhill points again reduced the gap to the minimum with 10 minutes remaining but these were to be their last scores of the game.
Ratoath upped their intensity adding another 2 goals and 4 points without reply in the final 10 minutes to run out winners of a pulsating match on a score line of Summerhill 2-10 Ratoath 5-12. Best on the day for Summerhill was the excellent Jenny Rispin who finished with a total of 2-5 of Summerhills scores.
